The theme this year is “Walking with Jesus” Colossians 2:6.

Who can go to camp?

This is a camp for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and CODA children age 8-18. All counselors are fluent in ASL (most are Deaf) and desire to be role models to our young people.

What are some activities?

There are various activities such as crafts, sports, games, swimming, team-building, tubing and many other activities.

History of IDYC:

The camp was started last July in 2009 by three pastors of deaf churches in Georgia and Virginia. They are: Mason Fenner of the Deaf Baptist Fellowship in Rome, Georgia; Bud Richardson of the Rowland Springs Baptist Church in Cartersville, Georgia and Samuel Woods of the Grace Baptist Church for the Deaf in Bristol, Virginia. These pastors and their churches had a desire to make an impact on the deaf youth in the Southeastern states. Thus a small camp in Danbridge, TN was established.

Is there a nurse available?

Yes, we have a registered nurse at the camp for minor emergencies. All serious emergencies will be transported to hospital less than 20 minutes from the camp.

Do you have lifeguards?

Yes, we have lifeguards who are present to watch the swimming and canoeing activities.

Counselors:

The majority of our counselors are Deaf adults who have leadership roles in our churches. They are great role models to the campers. They play a major role in the success of the camp. We have a ratio of one counselor per three campers. Teams are divided up into groups with three counselors per dorm.

How much is the camp?

$150.00 Students (age 8-18)

$280.00 for two students from the same family

Deadline for registration is July 11, Sunday evening.

The “Buckets of Hope” ministry is just one means by which Baptists can fulfill the mandate of Jesus Christ to feed the hungry in the name of Jesus. As we are reminded in Matthew 25:45, Jesus tells us, “Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.” (KJV)

A “Bucket of Hope” consists of a plastic five-gallon bucket packed with selected foodstuffs. For approximately $30 anyone can purchase the materials and assemble a “Bucket of Hope.” The food contained in a single bucket will feed a Haitian family for a week. You are also requested to include a $10 cash contribution, placed in an envelope and attached to the lid of the bucket, to offset the cost of transporting the relief buckets to Haiti.

Every bucket must be exactly alike with a specific list of items inside. Please follow the detailed instructions carefully. This will ensure that every bucket quickly passes through customs and into the hands of the Haitian people.
Put a bucket together and you can be a part in touching the loves of tens of thousands of Haitians. Please bring all buckets to the AMBA office by March 15.

Instructions on How to Assemble “Buckets of Hope”

IMPORTANT!

Every bucket must be exactly alike with a specific list of items inside. Please follow the detailed instructions carefully. This will ensure that every bucket quickly passes through customs and into the hands of the Haitian people.

The Bucket

The 5-gallon, white, plastic bucket with handle and form-fitting lid, which must be new and unused, can be purchased at Wal-Mart (sku# 00982650640) or Ace Hardware (Ace# 17714). The bucket must not have a logo or other commercial imprint.

The Food Items

The food items can be generic, store brand items. Do not substitute any items listed and do not add additional items.

2 – 5-pound bags long grain enriched rice

1 – 48-ounce plastic bottle cooking oil

2 – 2-pound bags dry black beans (can substitute with red beans)

1 – 5-pound bag of all-purpose flour (not self-rising)

1 – 20-ounce cylinder container of granulated white sugar (coffee service size)

2 – 1-pound boxes of spaghetti noodles

1 – 2-pound 8-ounce (40 oz) plastic jar of smooth peanut butter

1 – 2-gallon plastic ziplock storage bag (used to wrap the bottle of cooking oil)

Packaging Instructions

Before you begin to pack the bucket, pray for the Haitian family that will receive the food.

Lay the bucket on its side

Place rice packages in the bucket. Lay bags side-by-side, flat, running in the direction from top to bottom in the bucket. Gently compress the bags (without breaking them) as flat as possible to create room for other items

Place the bottle of oil inside a clean, unused 2-gallon storage bag

Compress the air, wrap the excess portion of the bag tightly around the bottle, and close the bag. (This is a precaution to protect the foodstuffs should there be leakage or a break in the bottle during transport.)

Lay the bottle of oil on top of the rice bags. Lay the wrapped oil container so that the bottom of the bottle is at the bottom of the bucket and approximately in the center of the bucket. Place the peanut butter jar on one side of the oil

Place the cylinder of sugar on top of the wrapped oil bottle

Place boxes of spaghetti noodles on the other side of the oil bottle

While holding the sugar and peanut butter containers in place, stand the bucket upright

Place one bag of black beans down along the side of the bucket next to the peanut butter

Place the bag of flour on its side on top of the peanut butter, gently packing down the flour bag to clear the rim of the bucket

Place second bag of black beans next to the flour

Close the lid on the bucket and make sure it is securely closed

Place $10 cash (bills only) into a business size (#10) or smaller envelope. Seal the envelope

Securely tape the envelope to the lid of the bucket

Take the Bucket of Hope to AMBA collection center before March 15, 2010.

Annistown Road Baptist Deaf Ministry will host a workshop on “Story One” starting February 19th through the 21st by John Folker.

You may question… what is “Story One”? Story One is a Whole BIBLE with ONE BIG STORY and in the Bible has many different stories. Scripture is not quoted in English but instead we translate it into ASL (America Sign Language) so the Deaf can understand the scriptures and be able to know the story in their hearts. Then they can go out and share the same story to others. If you have never seen this… we encourage you to come and have a taste of what is “Story One”.

This workshop is free to all, but is specifically directed to the deaf who wish to learn more about presenting the Bible in “Story One” format.

John Folker has been working with the Deaf for 32 years. He has lived in seven states and now resides in Richmond, Virginia. He has been a free-lance interpreter, a sign language business-owner, a pastor to the Deaf, a full-time court staff legal interpreter and workshop presenter for most of that time. Happily married for 22 years to another interpreter and the father of 3 wonderful children, John Folker welcomes the opportunity to provide whatever professional and educational experience he has with the fine people of your state!

The workshop will held on:

Session 1 – Februray 19th 6:00PM TO 9:00PM

Session 2 – February 20th 9:00AM TO 12:00PM

Session 3 – February 20th 1:00PM TO 5:00PM

Session 4 – February 21st 9:15AM to 12:15PM

To be as effective as possible, plan on attending all sessions!
